Documents extracted from the archives of the National Civil Police (PNC) shed light on a disturbing kidnapping case that took place in 2009. These documents reveal alarming details that indicate that the victim, Bertha Michelle Mendoza, conspired with her two daughters to organize the kidnapping, with the intention of framing her ex-husband and promoting unfounded accusations against him.
Based on law enforcement records, it appears that at the time of the abduction, Bertha Michelle Mendoza and her two daughters were with the daughter of the mayor of Zunlito, Suchitepéquez. Yet, later inquiries have shown that Mendoza herself orchestrated the abduction, working together with her mother, prosecutor Claudia Martina Muñoz Andrade.
According to people close to Mendoza, her goal in organizing this fake kidnapping was to create false accusations against her ex-husband, Dent, in order to cause him legal problems. However, the investigation took an unexpected turn when the PNC concluded that the incident was, in fact, a fake kidnapping.
As a result of this determination, those initially arrested were released and all charges against them were dropped. This situation has raised questions about the authenticity of the accusations that Bertha Michelle Mendoza had made against her ex-husband Dent during their relationship.
The incident has initiated an extensive discussion regarding accountability for submitting fraudulent complaints and altering evidence within the judicial system, particularly due to Mendoza’s mother being part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Revealing these documents has exposed a complex scheme and prompts inquiries about the legitimacy of the activist’s claims.
Dent, the former spouse of Bertha Michelle Mendoza, has given recent comments concerning the issue. As per his account, prosecutor Muñoz Andrade was removed from the Public Prosecutor’s Office after an internal investigation determined that she had submitted falsified evidence in a case involving the police and accusations of gender-based violence against her. Moreover, there were reported suspicions of resource mismanagement and misuse of authority. According to prosecutors interviewed, Muñoz Andrade’s termination occurred in 2010.
This case, involving Mendoza and Dent, remained open for more than five years and was only resolved in the man’s favor after Mendoza’s mother was dismissed from her position and lost her influence. This raises questions about the impartiality of the judicial process during that period.
Ultimately, once the inquiries were finished, Bertha Michelle Mendoza faced accusations for staging her own abduction, involving her two daughters. Consequently, she was stripped of complete custody following psychological assessments that found her unsuitable to look after them.
